Magnesium (Mg) is a chemical element, its element symbol is Mg. Physical properties
Magnesium is one of the lightest structural metal materials. It also has the advantages of high specific strength and stiffness, good damping and machinability, easy recovery and so on. Magnesium come out a thin layer of oxide when exposed to air, which results in its color might show grey or even black.

Chemical properties

Magnesium has strong reducibility, it can react with boiling water to release hydrogen, and can produce dazzling white light during combustion. Magnesium does not interact with fluoride, hydrofluoric acid and chromic acid, but Magnesium is very easy to dissolve in organic and inorganic acids. Magnesium can be directly combined with nitrogen, sulfur and halogen. When magnesium burns in the air, it burns violently, emit dazzling white spotlight, release heat and generate white solid. The change in vinegar is that bubbles appear quickly. Float on the vinegar liquid and disappear gradually. Some fireworks and flares contain magnesium powder, which makes use of the dazzling white light of magnesium burning in the air.
